GOMAM 2 and Other Ideas

So GOMAM is finally finished and published! I literally can’t believe that I’ve made it this far and there were so many times when I thought I should just give up and stop the project. Yet, I pulled through and I’m thankful to know that I could do something like this. Now, I’m thinking about book 2 in the series…

The thing is I know how the series will end and I know it will be at least three books, so don’t worry this second book is not the end! I also had a lot of rough plot points for upcoming books. However, since I’ve been working on the first book for so long, the enormity of tackling the second book alone is really hitting me. I’ve got to take care of a lot of characters, plot threads, worldbuilding, etc. Still, I’m happy that I’ve been able to find resources that have jumpstarted my ability to tell a good story and edit one. These resources primarily being classes and articles from creators that are pursuing something similar and sharing their knowledge.

When I think about the plot of the next book, I’m going to be exploring the elements, primarily focusing on water. I’m basically going to be working on my own water tribe, what that looks like, myths around it, the complicated history of it… Unlike ATLA (Avatar the Last Airbender), I want the water tribe to be warm and tropical with foliage and beaches. It’s going to be really fun and complex, so that’s what I’ll be doing come NaNoWriMo 2021. I mean, I literally have my outline document open right now and I’m excited/scared to try to untangle all my thoughts.

In other news, I came up with so many other story ideas while I was writing GOMAM. I don’t know the full scope of them and I don’t think any of them have a plot at this point, but the vibes are there. On top of that, each one has a playlist, so it’s practically written in the stars. I will give you a little tidbit of what’s on my mind:

  • A Retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses: Back when I was working my day job, I heard a song on the radio when I was coming home from work and I instantly got the title and I knew that I had to write a story. Trust, the vibes are awesome, but of course I can’t give it all away. I kind of want to base this out of a fantasy world and maybe there will be lose ties to the real world. I honestly have no idea.
  • A Zelda and Link vibes kind of story, but with a twist: I’ve got no idea about the plot, but I know that love is in the air and so is epic fantasy worldbuilding, even though I have no idea what the world looks like. However, the vibes are that the love story is like a quiet meditation in front of the loud magical world behind them. Think “Only Lovers Left Alive” when I say quiet meditation because lots of crazy things happened in that movie, like murder, but at the same time it was so chill. How do I write that? I have no idea, but I’m excited to find out.
  • A Beauty in the Beast Retelling: I didn’t realize what this story was at first. I just saw an amazing setpiece in my head along with this magical character who will be the “beast.” On top of that, I’ve already cast the “beast” actor for the movie in my mind and that is Johnathan Majors. Another option is model Broderick Hunter. So when I get around to this story, that’s what they officially look like in my head. I declare it canon! Weirdly enough, the inspiration came from Sarah J. Maas and her series A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR). The reason I say “weird” is because I was content to just love ACOTAR and daydream about it, but I guess in the background my brain was like “I gotta make something like this for myself.” I haven’t loved anything like ACOTAR in a long time and I was a little sad that Sarah created such a cool world and amazing characters, because I wanted to go there and meet them! On top of that, the world and story are still growing!

I’m not seriously writing any of these at the moment, but it’s nice to know that if I procrastinate on writing GOMAM 2, I have three alternative projects to keep myself productive. As always thank you so much for reading and supporting me! I’ll see you in the next post. Keep creating and keep xscaping!
