Happy New Year & Let Me Explain
I know I owe you an article about my NaNoWriMo experience and that is in development, but I have some things that I need to set straight. My record for publishing blog posts on a consistent schedule is not good. I am definitely willing to acknowledge this fault and do my best with providing a reason. Last semester of fall 2017 was a loaded and confusing time. I was an undergraduate research assistant for three years and switched to a different field of research at the end of the semester, I got a D in a class (which is like an F to me and it’s in my major), I started doubting my major hardcore (and I’m an upperclassman so that’s not the greatest situation), the anxiety disorder and sleep deprivation was so real, each of my six classes brought their own challenges, and worst of all I felt tired, confused, and unsure of my future. With all that and more going on, the semester left me feeling burnt out creatively, physically, and emotionally. I didn’t feel motivated to do anything and I almost felt ashamed/not good enough to pursue the growth of this blog and my other future endeavors, so I just stopped posting. When school was still happening, I couldn’t balance it and when the break started, I took a break and disappeared with no explanation. Also, I don’t care if one person reads this or 1,000. I made this blog and my other social accounts of my own volition in order to provide my creative work on a scheduled basis and I failed myself in that, as well as you.
That is not how I want to continue and I purposefully made this post a few days after the New Year began because I wanted to think about how to make this year different. I want to:
- be more consistent in writing to share my experiences and ideas with you guys through weekly posts.
- share my learning process in my creative endeavors to show others my beginning and that you can do it too
- post more of my creative work to social platforms to share with you all
Now, these goals aren’t terribly specific. I’m not saying what exact things I will be doing, but I want to show it to you more. The reason for the vague nature of my goals is because I am trying to find my direction and I don’t want to mislead you by saying I’m doing a project, end up not digging it, and make a full on 360 turn. Just know that I am looking at passions to reignite beyond visual art and writing.
In essence, I want to thank you for sticking around through my strange hiatus. I want you to know that I want to make this year different because I want to be different and better, for this year and beyond. I promise that the only way you won’t hear from me next week will be that my hands get busted or my terrible wifi decides to be a jerk. Please, keep creating and xscaping!
