*To the tune of Doja Cat’s Say So*
๐ต It’s been a long time since you’ve seen me here๐ต ๐๐
Where I’ve Been
So, lot’s of different things have been happening this spring and summer like a summer dance concert, got a new day job which required a lengthy commute for a month of training, and I’ve been putting in work on writing my second book Guardians of Magic and Myth. All of this has required some major adjustments, including an energy adjustment. My last job was only part-time and it’s been a minute since I’ve worked full time, so my body has to catch which is super fun while trying to battle insomnia ๐๐ฅฒ. Anyhow, with a month’s worth of training put in, I feel like I’m finding my stride. However, for the next two weeks I’m going to be at a temporary job location and then I will be at my final job location. The bonus is that the second and third job location are no more than 30 minute commutes, so cheers to that. What I’ve learned this spring and summer season, is that I must really lean into one key affirmation.
I can do whatever I want.
It sounds simple and it can also sound hard. The reason why it might sound hard is because you might wonder what your parents will say, what your peers might think, wondering if you’ll be good at it, etc. However, all of those factors are just distractions. I’ve learned that people will talk about you whether you’re doing something you like or doing something you hate, so you might as well do what you want! In addition to not worrying about how others perceive you, you actually need to go and do the thing. I thought about writing a book for a long time and so do lots of other people. We’ll talk it up and daydream, but we don’t do it. So, in addition to realizing I can do whatever I want, I also realized:
I need to romanticize my life and my work.
What does this mean? It means dating yourself and finding what you like. It’s figuring out what your essentials are, from your favorite music to what you can’t leave the house without. It’s celebrating the steps that come before a project is finished. The sketches, the writing, the brainstorm sessions. It’s learning to relish in the routine of making and not just celebrating having made something. It’s appreciating the steps of blood, sweat, and tears. It’s learning how to PROACTIVELY schedule breaks and make the most out of them. It’s returning to yourself, so that our downtime is filled with things we like that refill us, whether that be taking a long drive with a playlist, sitting outside and getting vitamin d, taking a walk, spending time with a good friend, or whatever works for you!
There is no set path in life. All the traditional milestones you’ve heard are not necessarily for you and that’s ok. The idea of some of them made you frown up anyway ๐. You can turn right instead of left and you can get a bachelor’s degree or you can hunt for single courses online OR whatever! It’s your journey so you should take the time to get to know yourself and go after what you need.
I’ll see y’all next week with another post!
